this morning that the national debt stands at $16 trillion. right now if president obama gets four more years, he predicted the national debt would skyrocket to $20 trillion. he is putting that message out there. i had a chance to talk to mitt romney about some of this yesterday and suzanne, he did not seem concerned about this. he came to talk to us on his campaign plane yesterday saying that the obama campaign is basically trying to strike the football on the 30 yard line, there's still plenty of time left, and there is some truth to that. rick santorum and some of the midwestern states for a brief period, and then he was able to close the gap. mitt romney is a good closer. it will be interesting to watch these polls as the days going g on as we get to the debates that are coming up. they'll be critical. >> i'll have to beef up on my sports analogies as well. thank you, jim. good to see you. >>> a reminder we'll be dipping to both president obama and mitt romney's events here in ohio. the president is in bowling green. mitt romney is in bedford heights. we'll go live to both locations. to n

's really a republican firewall for mitt romney. in battleground virginia, both president obama and mitt romney pulled out the heavy artillery before a group of veterans, romney slammed the president for the massive defense cuts part of the fiscal cliff coming at the end of the year. >> it is still a troubled and dangerous world. and the idea of cutting our military commitment by a trillion dollars over this decade is unthinkable. and devastating. and when i become president of the united states, we will stop it. i will not cut our commitment to our military. >> the president once again blasted romney's hidden camera comments on the 47% of americans he dubbed victims of government dependence. >> i don't think we can get very far with leaders who writeoff half the nation as a bunch of victims who never take responsibility for their own lives. >> 47% of the people vote for the president no matter what. who -- >> the obama campaign turned romney's secretly recorded remarks into a devastating new ad claiming the gop nominee's words under the families and veterans. >> so my job is not to worr

though is kind of instructive. right now president obama seems safely ahead in all of the polling. pennsylvania is actually the kind of state that mitt romney's promise a year ago he was going to be able to put into play the same way john mccain's promise was supposedly that. the reason why pennsylvania has become so solid democratic they've won in each of the past five elections is largely because theuburbs outsi philadelphia, white collar, affluent, right of center economically, left of center social issues have moved decisively towards the democrats. originally mitt romney was seen as a candidate who could appeal to those voters. but he's not making ma inroads there. as a result pennsylvania seems out of reach in an reastic scenario. >> he was doing so fund raising there. that may be the major reason while he's there although the aides ar being a bit coy pretending they think it's realistic to get the democrats that a sthere. wouldn't be first time. >> we'll see if they put any television montimeey or i that. >> let's see if they t up ere with some money. you've been taking a

from mitt romney on the obama record. >> we know where the president's pathway leads. because we're on it. we've seen it for four years. we've seen the number of people on food stamps go from 32 million to 47 million. >> now the romney campaign started out saying the election should be a referendum on the obama record. certainly that rhetoric from mr. romney fits with that in recent weeks they said really a choice. dependency society based on the obama agenda of bigger government and bigger government intrusion into the lives of individual entrepreneural spirit of the american people versus romney view is less government, less regulation, less intrusion and more personal responsibility and opportunities of prosperity versus stagnation. there is a point on which you could expect the obama campaign and the president to pick at mr. romney tomorrow if it doesn't come up in a question at all. now the infamous rashes about the 47% who don't pay income taxes in the u.s. and that surreptitiously obtained video from several weeks back at a florida fund-raiser. the 47% is sure to come up.

tuesday, president obama took a tougher than usual election-season line against iran. the cold reality is, that after nearly four years of failed diplomacy and half hearted sanctions that he opposed until congress forced his hand, neither iran nor israel believe him. essentially saying actions speak louder than words. your reaction? >> i think that actions do speak louder than words. and if you look at the record of the president, he has led the international community in posing the most crippling sanctions ever imposed on any country. he has said that all options are on the table. i can tell you from my time in the pentagon that option is very real. it is important that we give diplomacy time to work. we still do have time. the president has been clear and consistently clear in his determination to absolutely prevent iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. there's no doubt about that whatsoever. >> but the leader of israel benjamin netanyahu doesn't say we've been very clear. he keeps calling us to lay out a deliberate red line here. there are people here in this world, key allies, that do
